Dyffryn Pattern Tapestry Throw - Indigo
Traditionally woven Welsh Tapestry Throw in Indigo and White.
Indigo blue is the oldest textile dye known to man. Dyeing techniques were developed and perfected in India over 4,000 years ago. The natural dyestuff was extracted from the stem and leaves of the Indigofera, or Woad plants.
The association with India is shown in the Greek word for the dye – Indikon. The Romans called it Indicum, which in Britain became Indigo.
Natural Indigo was the only source of the dye until about 1900, when synthetic dye began to replace the traditional plant dyes.
Welsh Tapestry is a double cloth, which makes it warm and durable. The bold patterns are reversible giving the choice of the dark side or light side up.
Woven in Wales, in a soft handle Pure New Wool.
The dimensions of the Throw are 114cm (45") wide by 183cm (70") long including fringe approx.
Dry cleaning recommended.
